Comedy Tennessee giving Memphis area amateurs a chance to laugh it up.

Are you a doctor who likes to tell jokes to patients/ Do you crack up co-workers at your law firm? If so, then you might be the person Comedy Tennessee is looking for in its Memphis Comedy Search.

The comedy club at 6102 Macon will be hosting a comedic talent search on Wednesdays from August 22-March 5.

Here's the punch line: They're doing it by profession.

"we just thought it would be an interesting way to branch it out over a couple of weeks," says Sammy MArten, who co-owns the club with John Marks. "Mainly, we're just trying to give a venue to people who have had the urge to do stand-up. We're trying to egg them on."

On August 22, waiters and waitresses will be able to show off their comic skills, followed by teachers, pilots, college students, IT workers, city employees and mechanics, among other professions.

Each weekly prize winner will get a trophy, a small cash prize and a chance to compete against the other weekly winners on March 19th. The overall winner gets $400 cash and a guest set at Comedy Tennessee on a Saturday Night.
