Memphis, Tenn. (January 17, 2005) – The first comedy club in east Memphis, “COMEDY, TENNESSEE”, opens Thursday, January 20th. The club’s debut will feature nationally-known comic Tim Walkoe as the headline act. Walkoe has been featured on Showtime and HBO, and was a grand-prize winner on ABC-TV’s “America’s Funniest People”. Southern comedian Daniel Hooper is the feature act.

Comedy, Tennessee, is located in the Holiday Inn Select on Poplar just east of I-240.  Tickets are $10. Shows will start each Thursday at 8 p.m., featuring two or more new comics every week. The club is being opened by two West Tennessee comedians, John Marks and Sammy Marten. Marks and Marten will alternate as the opening act each week. “Memphis deserves to see live comedy from some of the brilliant comics that are touring the country today,” says Marks. “And we know what to showcase in Memphis, because we’ve worked with most of the comics we’ll be bringing in.”

Comedy, Tennessee is patterned after a similar club opened by a comedian in Texas. His unique business model used sponsorships from Texas businesses to help the club become successful. “It’s a great deal for sponsors,” says Marten. “They get tremendous exposure in the club and through our advertising, plus a big monthly supply of tickets to hand out to clients and employees.”
